Long time, no updates

It’s been a fair number of minutes since I’ve last posted. I’ve been a fairly busy individual. I had the honor in 2004 of joining the Technology Team at the Burning Man Project!

As a WAN Network Engineer at Burning Man, I joined a team responsible for delivering high-capacity network services to support the ongoing operations of several departments that make the event happen. Over the 8-week period, I participated in the deployment and maintenance of the WAN infrastructure, ensuring reliable and high-performance network connectivity in a challenging and hostile environment.

Key Achievements:
– Designed, deployed, and maintained WAN infrastructure to deliver 90TB of data and 83 billion packets to the playa.
– Ensured network reliability and performance to support various departments, including art installations, public services, and event operations.
– Monitored network traffic and troubleshot issues to maintain optimal performance.
– Collaborated with IT and RF specialists to install and support long-distance microwave links and networks between Gerlach and Black Rock City.
– Implemented security measures to protect network integrity and data privacy.
– Provided technical support and training to staff and volunteers as needed.

Additional Insights:
– Gained valuable experience working in a remote and challenging environment, which required adaptability and resilience.
– Developed a deep understanding of the unique needs and dynamics of temporary event-based environments.
