Further down the Domestication Rabbit Hole : Tuna Salad

Gourmet Tuna Salad

And so today, I give you the secret recipie for gourmet tuna salad, comprised for the most part of knowledge

passed down by my darly departed Grandmother.

Getting started:

Truth of the matter, I get started about 12-14 hours ahead of time by hard boiling two eggs. My preferred method is pretty

simple; I place two eggs into a small pot and add enough water to cover the eggs. I bring the water to a boil, then cover

the pot and remove heat, setting a 20 minute timer. At the end of 20 minutes, I remove the eggs from the hot water and cool

them beneath cold running water for two minute, and toss them in the refrigerator.

Today we get started with a large pyrex bowl and two cans of solid tuna in water. I squeeze out the water, then break the

tuna up into smaller pieces with a fork. I take this opportunity to add 6-8 twists of a pepper mill set to the largest sized

bits and mix it into the tuna.

Hard Boiled Eggs

After breaking up the tuna, we peel and fold in two hard boiled eggs after putting them through an egg slicer twice.

Sweet Relish:

Sweet Relish is the next component added, essentially one large spoon full. I also toss in a dash of finely chopped green

onions, and red onion at this point. It's important to bring in any additional flavors you wish to express in your own tuna

salad right here, BEFORE we add the mayo.

I intentionally bring the mayo in last, two large dollops from a spoon. We want to ensure the dryest ingredients have been

mixed well, and the mayo is used to hold our masterpiece together as a primary function; flavor is actually secondary.

Adding mayo last also decreases the chances of adding more than we need - extra mayo will separate and leave extra fluid in

the bottom of your leftovers container that has to be mixed back into the tuna salad before making a sandwich.

The Secret:

The secret ingredient at the end of it all is enough paprika to cover the top of our creation, then mixed in thoroughly.

More updates

For those regular viewers (both of you) you'll note the addition of my Twitter feed today.  I've kept my Tweets protected for quite some time, and decided perhaps it's a better idea to open it up and make it "useful" to some degree.

Since I carry a hella-smart phone, it makes sense to start making use of Twitpic, Yelp, and all my other apps...

I want to keep the focus on myself, obviously, and content that I think friends and family will find genuinely useful.  In the case of Facebook, I prefer to create an entry here on my website, and publish it over there to "pull" folks off of Facecrack, even if only for a moment.  By and large, however, I'll let Twitter, Twitpic, YouTube, et al store my large content for me.

Wireless Security Focus

My brand new Samsung Galaxy S4 4G-LTE Smart Phone activated on Black Friday. This is the free version of the Verizon Wireless "VSP" application or "Verizon Support and Protection", protecting me from Bad Things(tm) on the Internet.

As my friends and family may or may not already know I recently transitioned to work in this segment of the wireless industry. Working with new technology has always provided me a great deal of excitement throughout the years, particularly when I see technology succeed in augmenting or enhancing life - making mundane tasks easier, simpler, and perhaps even fun!

21st Century Life Companion

I broke a vow today. I tried - hard. I really, truly did. I tried to avoid the consumerism and consumtion that comes with "Black Friday". I promised myself I would stay home until it was time to go to work, and not spend a dime.

Then I found out that Best Buy, one of my _least_ favorite places in the world to shop, was giving away Samsung Galaxy S4 4G-LTE phones free with two year activation. So I decided I would make plans to head over early Friday morning and wade into the fray. Fortunately for me, I had the sense to look at their website early this morning and pre-order my unit for in store pickup. Added bonus: I don't have to wade into the store on Black Friday, have until December 5th to pick it up. Just moments ago, I visited their website - and they're completely sold out.

I'm SUPER excited about this new phone. It's been a very long time since I've had modern technology in my hands, and nearly as long since I last spent any money on something I _want_ for myself. Truth is, if it weren't for the Black Friday special, I'd have to fork out $300 for this phone, so I can let myself of the hook just a little bit.

Bonus: Mine comes in a pseudo-rare Blue Arctic finish.

By And Down

A Perfect Circle - By And Down
Moving in and out of the shadows.
It's no easy mission,
Holding on to how I picture you.
Showing only bits and pieces,
Till the tide betrays you,
And your empty allocution.
Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of humility.
Searching your eyes for the saint is an act of futility.
Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of it.
Searching your eyes for humility.
Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace,
I'm still searching, searching.
Showing only bits and pieces,
Till the light betrays you,
And your empty allocution.

Rode the Piper by and down the river.
Carcass crippled underneath,
The pounding waves of adoration.
Pied Piper float on down the river.
Bloated carcass, crippled knee,
The weight of adoration.
Moving in and out of the shadows.
It's no easy mission,
Holding on to how I picture you.

A Professional

“Someone once asked Somerset Maugham if he wrote on a schedule or only when struck by inspiration. “I write only when inspiration strikes,” he replied. “Fortunately it strikes every morning at nine o’clock sharp.”

That’s a pro.

In terms of Resistance, Maugham was saying, “I despise Resistance; I will not let it faze me; I will sit down and do my work.”
Maugham reckoned another, deeper truth: that by performing the mundane physical act of sitting down and starting to work, he set in motion a mysterious but infallible sequence of events that would produce inspiration, as surely as if the goddess had synchronized her watch with his.

He knew if he built it, she would come.”

Spiritual Vision

“Spiritual vision literally cannot see error, and merely looks for Atonement. All solutions the physical eye seeks dissolve. Spiritual vision looks within and recognizes immediately that the altar has been defiled and needs to be repaired and protected. Perfectly aware of the right defense it passes over all others, looking past error to truth. Because of the strength of its vision, it brings the mind into its service. This re-establishes the power of the mind and makes it increasingly unable to tolerate delay, realizing that it only adds unnecessary pain. As a result, the mind becomes increasingly sensitive to what it would once have regarded as very minor intrusions of discomfort.”
